Wines that Rock: Arneis - 3 Reasons to fall in love with this sexy Italian
Dreading being handed a glass of Pinot Grigio has become a big part of my life. PG is like the girl in college who is everywhere, sleeping with everyone. I know this is me slut- shaming Pinot Grigio, but I want to open your eyes to other baller wines out there that are classy and keep it in their pants. If you are anything like me and the idea of drinking a glass of Santa Margarita makes you want to vomit, then you are in the right place. I am your wine travel guide, about to show you to the awe-inspiring land of my classy friend Arneis.
Arneis is a white grape that comes from the red wine dominated region of Piedmont, Italy, the home of the tobacco dripping, potting soil dusted Nebbiolo variety. It is known for its dynamic notes of honeydew melon, juicy pear, crisp freshly blossomed white flowers and round, killer body. This grape shouldn’t be looked at as the super fancy girl who has it all and won’t give anyone else the time of day. On the contrary, Arneis is the girl that smells nice and smiles at everyone.
I know that I may have turned some people off with my hate campaign of PG, but in my opinion we need something that brings more to the table. We deserve more than trashy off-dry bar wine. We have the right to drink intoxicating elegant, yet totally approachable and affordable, chug worthy wines. Arneis can be that for us and I have put together some reasons why:
1. That body
The body of Arneis is absolutely beautiful and it is perfect for just sipping without food. You could totally drink this when you’re just hanging around at home on your day off, cleaning your house or taking your dog for a walk.

2. It has the moves.
Like any good dance partner, your wine needs to have the damn groove. Arneis is like Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. It will change your life. One minute you’re going to some sort of family camp and then out of nowhere you are hypnotized by the dream of being the dance instructor’s dirty dance partner. But, you are not Baby. You are just a wino and Patrick Swayze is just a big beautiful chill glass of Arneis that will make you feel like you can break out into some killer seductive grooves.

3. Perfect partner
Yes, it is a good chugging wine and perfect for just throwing a few glasses back while talking about drones and dance moves with your friends. Also, this wine is the perfect pair for a broad range of food! Whether you are an ‘I’ll have a salad, dressing on the side’ kind of sad person or a double-double with animal fries-lover kind of person, this wine would go great with either. It is racy but has a beautiful acidity that will cut any fattiness or will accentuate all the crisp lightness in food.
Arneis is the cool, nice Italian girl who eats a lot of juicy pear jelly beans and has all the fabulous dance moves, and she just wants to hang out.
At first you may find that is hard to find this wine but these bottles are not as rare as you think. Just pop by your local wine shop and ask your friendly wine lover if they have a bottle.
