Wines that Rock: Cabernet Sauvignon - All Hail the King

You didn’t think we were going skip this one did you? How could we possibly skip over Cabernet Sauvignon as if it were too big, too mainstream, too popular? Well, we would never do such a thing to any grape, and Cabernet Sauvignon deserves every moment it gets in the spotlight.

There is a reason they call it the King of Grapes. Cabernet Sauvignon is as meaty, as big, as bad, and as flavorful as they come.  Cabernet Sauvignon is Elvis Presley, crossed with Kanye West, on steroids.  Everywhere you go it is either taking on a host of new characteristics, changing who its look from crooner to rock legend, and screaming at the top of its lungs that it begs to be seen, it begs to be heard, and it craves to be drunk.

Cabernet Sauvignon is indulgence at its core. It is big on every aspect of the wine spectrum. It is full bodied, loaded with tannins, full of fruit flavors, and of course not too shy on the alcohol. It is a big wine, for big occasions. It is a wine for the good life, living each day to its fullest, and damned the consequences. Cab-Sav is equal parts old rich boys club, and young money throwing dollar bills around just for fun.

Sure, you can easily get a Cab-Sav for less than $15, or less than $10 even, and you would be totally happy with it. But to really experience the good life, to really get to know the King, you have to get your ass to Napa and open up your wallet. Over there, Cabernet Sauvignon takes on a whole new life, and the richness of the grape comes through with unrelenting prowess. You find wines that are exquisite, yet find in them a renegade spirit that does not hold back for a second. You will never want to live the winery, or the restaurant, because this is what it must be like to live as the New Age Royalty, without a care, and devouring life by the glass.

All hail the king.

Oh Cabernet-Sauvignon, we could never leave you. We could never forget you. We just needed to wait until we could truly appreciate you, and now that we can, its time to indulge in one of the very best grapes that the world has to offer. All hail the king.
