Wine Trends: 5 Full Bodied Red wines to keep you warm this winter

Unlike Game of Thrones and House Stark, we don’t have the luxury of waiting seven years for winter to arrive. Winter hits you and BOOM you are piling on the layers of clothes like nobody’s business. It’s a time of long, cold nights, cool days, snow, fireplaces, big blankets, and cable knit sweaters. It’s all about keeping your heart, your soul, and your body warm, and we could think of nothing better than these f full bodies red wines to keep you warm this winter.

Cabernet Sauvignon – The king of grapes, and every guy’s go to steak dinner pairing. Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, indulgent, and nothing beats a good Cab Sav to fill you up and warm you at your core.

Syrah (or Shiraz mate, whatever) – We call it Syrah, Australians call it Shiraz, South Africans cant seem to make their mind up. Whatever you call it, this is one of the best wines to fall asleep with. Go full bore Shiraz and enjoy the warmth of the bottle, or have some Shiraz-Viognier blends from the land of Oz, and come in from the cold as you sit down to a hearty meal with your significant other at your favorite restaurant.

Pinotage – Not sure the South Africans know a real winter, but they do know fire. Staring into the flames as your face glows, with the cold at your back is the embodiment of Pinotage. That, or you can open up a smooth, fruity, smoky Pinotage while you Netflix and chill.

Douro (Touriga Nacional) – If there was a wine that could feel like sitting in front of a roaring fireplace after a long day of skiing, then Douro is that wine. Two glasses in and you are going to romp naked on that massive bear skin rug like an erotic seventies movie. That’s just what Douro does to you.

Bordeaux Blends (a little Merlot, a little Cab Franc, a lot of Cab Sav) – Slightly different to full on Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux blends are a part of the holy trinity of French wine that defines almost everything we drink. Great for those winter black tie events, weekends at your rich girlfriends’ folks; cabin, or any time you want to class up an evening, or any occasion.
