Wines that Rock: Zweigelt - A wine by any other name...

Why did nobody ever tell me that Zweigelt existed? Seriously? Who has been hiding this wine from me? Zweigelt is awesome, its delicious, and its a super drinkable wine. So why is it not more famous? Why is this wine not one of the most famous wines in the world right now? Zweigelt rocks! Zweigelt should be on the lips of every wine drinker from noob to pro gamer.

Personally I tend to fall in love with the Austrians, thats just me.

Oh wait, thats why. For most of us trying to pronounce Zweigelt would be a bit of a doozy, at least if you have not taken any German lessons. Or maybe its just not as sexy to pronounce as Pinot Noir. Think about this for a second. I am going to introduce you to two fine people, Helga and Chloe, Klaus or Pierre, who do you think you would be more interested in without having seen them? I will guess 9 out of 10 people reading this went for the French names (though personally I tend to fall in love with the Austrians, thats just me).

From sip to sip, glass to glass, bottle to bottle you start to uncover a much more passionate person...I mean wine...

That is why I implore every wine drinker to seek out and try Zweigelt. Give Helga and Klaus a chance. You will find that this wine is sexy as any other wine, maybe even more so. If you are open minded and enjoy experimenting, you will find something that is approachable and just a little complex. Layers of fun hidden behind a serious exterior.  From sip to sip, glass to glass, bottle to bottle you start to uncover a much more passionate person...I mean wine... with desires that you will get lost in. Again, totally talking about the wine here.

Zweigelt reminds us of simple pleasures in life. It brings a bright smile to your face, making you happy, and carefree

Zweigelt is so easy to get along with. It is the most widely planted red grape in Austria, ahead of Saint Laurent and Blaufrankisch. In fact Zweigelt is a cross between the two and named of Fritz Zweigelt who crafted it. Its light to medium body makes it super easy to drink, but so full of character that makes it stand out above other translucent wines like Pinot Noir and Beaujolais. The low tannins make it super approachable, and its fruitiness allows it to pair well with just about everything.  Its like finding out Chloe is a starfish in bed, Pierre only cares about himself, meanwhile Helga is leading you to a meadow for some one on one fun and Klaus is teaching you things about love, sex, and yourself that you never knew were possible.

Zweigelt reminds us of simple pleasures in life. It brings a bright smile to your face, making you happy, and carefree. Its like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop, or Jingle All the Way, or as the Governor of the Great State of California. You kind of have to love it, even if its a bit silly. Its a wine you can take anywhere, do anything with, and have a fun time with. Zweigelt is so much fun to be around, you'll want to do everything with it.
